Former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions Enyimba beat state rivals Abia Warriors 1-0 to win the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu Pre-season football tournament in Aba.

Team captain Austin Oladapo scored the game’s only goal on the dot of half time, converting from the penalty spot after former Enyimba defender Markson Ojobo had upended Tosin Omoyele inside the box.

Enyimba thus won the week-long tournament (which saw them playing six matches in seven days) in grand style by winning all their six matches. A total of ten teams participated in the tournament, including Plateau United whom Enyimba defeated 1-0 in the semi-final.

Saturday’s defeat was Abia Warriors’ first in eleven pre-season games under new head coach Imama Amapakabo who took over the team from interim head Willy Udube in July.

Both Enyimba and Abia Warriors will play their home games in the next football season at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba which hosted all matches in the week-long Okezie Ikpeazu tournament which started last Sunday and ended on Saturday evening.

Enyimba, coached by Fatai Osho have a date with Burkina Faso champions Rahimo next weekend in their CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg clash in Ouagadougou before the return leg in Aba in a fortnight.

The 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League season has been fixed to commence on Sunday, December 6, 2020.
