Obinna Emegano was the star of the night getting off the bench to score a game high 24 points, 3 assists and 4 steals as Nigeria demolished Rwanda 111-70.

The win extended their record to 5-0 in the ongoing 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday.

Emegano made 5/11 from the deep and back to back threes in the second quarter.

Jordan Nwora had 17 points and 9 rebounds, Bryant Mbamalu and Ben Uzoh both scored 14 points and 3 assists each.

Rwanda were a hard nut to crack in the first half but didn’t take long before they broke down. Nwora’s two straight shots, a clutch and a dunk ensured D’Tigers took a 19 point lead going to the break.

For Rwanda, Kami Kabange had 14 points while Walter Nkurunziza, Kenny Gasana and Kevin Ndahiro made 10 points each in the game.

Rwandans turned over the ball 30 times and were outrebounded 50-39.

D’Tigers will face Mali in their final game on Sunday at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium Lagos.

Meanwhile, Nigeria became the first team in Africa to qualify for the second and final round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers after their victory on Friday.

Having recorded 3-0 in the first leg of the second window of the qualifiers, all Nigeria needed was just a win to seal their place as one of the 3 teams in Group B to advance to the next round.

Qualifiers from Group B will be drawn alongside those from Group D which includes Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique and Central Africa Republic for 2 automatic tickets.

The first leg of the second round tournament will take place during the fourth window between September 10-18 before the return leg takes place between November 26 and December 4.
