D’Tigers call up Ochefu, increase foreign pros to 7

Washington Wizards forward , Daniel Ochefu will make his debut for the Men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers at the 2017 Afrobasket tournament in September.

The American-born Nigerian will arrive the country this week to join the rest of the squad in camp.

On Sunday, D’Tigers coach Alex Nwora arrived Nigeria with 6 foreign based players to join the home based players already in the Lagos camp.

Ochefu will bring the number of foreign based players to 7 called up for Afrobasket title defense in Tunisia.

The 2016 NCAA champion, helped his college Villanova to win their second national championship before moving to the Wizards as a free agent in July 2016. His move to Washington Wizards was achieved after going un-drafted in 2016 NBA draft. Ochefu appeared in 4 games for Wizards in the 2016 summer league in Las Vegas.

Nigeria  have been drawn with Mali, Cote’d Ivoire and Democratic Republic of Congo in Group A of the 2017 Afrobasket.
