Assistant coach of the senior women’s national team, D’Tigress, Peter Ahmedu has been appointed head coach of Dolphins Basketball Club.

Dolphins disclosed the news on their official Facebook page Dolphins on Thursday.

According to the official release from the club it read, “We are pleased to announce a new addition to our back room staff. The assistant coach of the D’Tigress Peter Ahmedu has been added to our coaching crew as the official head coach of Dolphins basketball club.

“We welcome him on board to our prestigious team wishing him and the crew a hitch-free and a prosperous league season.”

Until this week, Ochuko Okworogun was head coach of the former champions of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League since 2012.

Okworogun has now dropped down to the assistant role of Dolphins Basketball Club.

The former Dolphins player embraced the recent decision made by management of the Club.

“I don’t have any issues with the management appointing coach Peter,” she told www.aclsports.com.

Okworogun added,” Considering the person they brought in I am very comfortable with him and both of us can work together. We are both friends and I have played under him when I was a player and we have also worked together as assistant coaches at the 2017 Afrobasket Women.”

Ahmedu whose contract was not renewed at First Bank Basketball Club led the team to three straight league titles, three straight FIBA Africa Zone 3 titles and back to back third place finish at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women.

The former Mark Mentors coach revealed to www.aclsports.com last month he was sure of handling another female team in the new season.
