Utitofon James has set a new Personal Best 49.70m in the women’s Discus event at the 2nd AFN Evaluation Meet at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure.

James told www.aclsports.com making the Olympics team to Tokyo is her next when she competes at the National Sports Festival in Edo state.

She expressed happiness over winning gold medal at the 2nd AFN All Comers.

James said, “I am very happy improving from my previous throw of 46.08m to 49.70m. For me throwing a new Personal Best really means a lot to me, it shows that the work I have been putting in training is not in vain

“My target for this year is to throw more personal bests and making the Olympics team by God’s grace. My main aim at the National Sports Festival is to get the Olympic standard mark in Discus”.

The new national champion told www.aclsports.com that lack of sponsors had stalled her performance in previous competitions, calling for individual and corporate bodies to sponsor her in order to become a better athlete.

She said, “I have been facing a lot of challenges but the main one is lack of sponsors. I believe if I can get a sponsor, I will do better than before”.

Utitofon James placed second behind Princess Kara at the 2019 African Games trials in Kaduna.
