Badminton: Opeyori to face World no 6 at Paris 2024 Olympics

Two-time African Games Champion, Anuoluwapo Opeyori will face world number 6, Li Shi Feng in the men’s singles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, www.aclsports.com reports.

In the men’s singles draws monitored by www.aclsports.com,  Opeyori is in Group N with China’s Li Shi Feng and Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi.

Opeyori who is making his second appearance at the Olympics will have to secure a win if he stands a chance of progressing to the next round of the men’s singles.

Nigeria’s Anuoluwapo Opeyori is currently ranked 102 in the world, having won his second African Games title in Ghana last March and currently a four-time African Champion.

On the other hand, Li Shi Feng won a silver medal at the 2024 Asian Championship and won a gold medal at the 2024 Thomas Cup in Chengdu. Shi Feng broke into the limelight having won a gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Opeyori’s second opponent, Tobias Kuenzi (Switzerland) is currently ranked 112 in the world.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori is currently training with Team Nigeria contingents in Germany as they round up their foreign tour which is the final phase.

“I am dedicated to playing badminton because hard work begath results as well as success; if you work hard opportunities will present themselves. I believe in myself and keep on working despite the hindrances and lack of motivation. I believe in my dream that I am going to grow and make it to the top,” Opeyori said.
