Nigeria secured double gold at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on Sunday, with Rosemary Nwankwo and Gift Bright powering to victory in the women’s and men’s 100m events, respectively, www.aclsports.com reports.

In the women’s event, Nwankwo was the fastest with 11.16 seconds ahead of Arwa Ali of the United Arab Emirates, who finished in 11.41, and Qatar’s Dana Salem, who took the bronze medal with 11.48.

By virtue of her win, Nwankwo became the third Nigerian to win the women’s 100m event at the Youth Olympic Games, following the successes of Josephine Omaka (Singapore 2010) and Rosemary Chukwuma (Buenos Aires 2018).

In the men’s 100m final, Bright came through with a personal best of 10.28 seconds to clinch Nigeria’s first Youth Olympic gold in the category. He finished ahead of China’s Zhang Hangyu (10.57) and Poland’s Szymon Dolega (10.61) for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Their victories have further strengthened Team Nigeria’s medal prospects as athletics action resumes at Stade Iba Mar Diop on Monday, with the contingent aiming to secure more podium finishes before the games end on Friday.
