Elizabeth Anyanacho won a bronze medal in the women’s -67kg category at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China, www.aclsports.com reports.

Anyanacho, a two-time Olympian who represented Nigeria as the country’s sole Taekwondo athlete at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is Africa’s number one-ranked athlete in her category. Her campaign at Wuxi was marked by determination, tactical excellence, and remarkable composure.

In the Round of 32, Anyanacho faced Klaudija Tvaronaviciute of Lithuania, securing a hard-fought victory. She then defeated Claudia Gallardo of Chile in the Round of 16, before advancing to the quarterfinals. There, she battled past Uzbekistan’s Ozoda Sobirjonova in two tightly contested rounds, 8–6 and 10–9, to secure a 2–0 win and book her place in the semifinals. Anyanacho eventually fell to Milena Titoneli of Brazil in the semifinals, earning a bronze medal.

The gold medal went to Hungary’s Luana Márton, while Brazil’s Milena Titoneli took silver. Anyanacho and Spain’s Lena Moreno both claimed bronze.

Her performance in Wuxi not only highlights her consistency at the highest level but also reaffirms her status as Africa’s leading Taekwondo star.
