The Technical Director Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Sunday Adeleye said Nigeria is participating at the Commonwealth Games in Gold coast, Australia to win medals. Adeleye who disclosed this at the AFN Commonwealth Games trials at the National Stadium in Abuja revealed that 12 Personal Bests (PB) time and two National records were set after Day 3.

He revealed to aclsports.com that the federation plans embarking on training tour next month in Australia.
“By the grace of God, We are going to the commonwealth games not for Jamboree by to bring back medals and not just medals but gold”, he said.

“You know the athletes have been in camp for the Commonwealth Games since December, and I think it is proper for us to let them have probably a week break to see their family and loved ones and report back to camp. And of course those that did not make it, we are not just going to throw them out, we’ll continue to nurture them and see how we can monitor them”, Adeleye said.

The Technical Director further said “We’re looking at a training tour after they return from their break. Next month, we should be leaving for gold coast to start preparations in earnest to at least get used to the facilities and equipment’s there. We need to enjoy the weather, facilities, track and get used to them before the competition proper.
