Captain of newly promoted Nigeria Professional Football League side Go-Round FC; Nelson Esor believes the elite league is head and shoulders above all others in the land.
Esor, like his team is playing in the top tier for the first time in his career and it has not been an easy start for them. Go-Round are placed 14th on the league table after eight matches, and just one point above the relegation zone.
All their three wins this term have been by a one-goal margin on home turf, underlining the difficulty of this level as acknowledged by Esor.
“There is a big difference between the NPFL and the lower leagues. Difference in the officiating, the environment, the fans and the media coverage…. Everything is different,” Esor told www.aclsports.com
“The pace of the game is different, the mentality of the players both the ones playing at home or in away matches. There is a big difference between the NPFL and the lower league,” affirmed Esor.
Go-Round have played four away games this season, losing all; a disturbing stat for not only the team’s players and coaches but also their fans. The former Kogi United midfielder says they must keep pushing.
“We keep doing our best. In (last away game) Port Harcourt we did our best but the outcome of the match towards the dying minutes changed the result of the game.
“We will not give up in our away matches. We will keep fighting and surely we will get something soon.”
The ‘Dare the Lions’ as Go-Round are called face a difficult trip to Maiduguri to face bottom-of-the-table El-Kanemi on Sunday and the diminutive Number 10 is not oblivious of the task that faces his side.
“Traveling to El-Kanemi Warriors this weekend, we will still do our best and we are praying to God that the result will turn to our favour this time around,” concluded Esor.
