Nigerian fencer Inkosi Brou won the 2026 FIE Satellite Sabre Viking Cup in Iceland on Sunday to claim his third international medal, www.aclsports.com reports.
Brou faced Andri Maateev of Iceland in the final and controlled the contest to record a 15-6 victory and lift the Viking Cup title.
The 18-year-old entered the one-day tournament as the highest-ranked fencer in the field and began his campaign in the round of 16 with a commanding 15-4 victory over the UAE’s Hamid Al Maazmi before defeating Kenneth Kong of Sweden 15-11 in the quarter-finals and No. 4 seed Lumir Kral of the Czech Republic 15-12 in the semi-finals to book his place in the final.
The victory adds to Brou’s growing international medal collection. He won silver at the 2024 World Tournoi Satellite Cup in Reykjavik, Nigeria’s first global fencing medal, before claiming bronze at the 2025 African Junior Championships in Angola.
Brou is now targeting a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as he looks to become the first Nigerian fencer to compete at the Olympics.
