AWC 2018: Nwoye, Reuben reclaim African titles

The  duo of Ifeoma Nwoye and Hannah Reuben representing Nigeria  on Sunday reclaimed their African titles at the just concluded African Wrestling Championships in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

The 2010 Commonwealth Gold medallist, Ifeoma Nwoye took on Tunisia’s Faten Hammami in the final of the 55kg weight category. The Anambra State wrestler defeated Hammami by Technical Superiority in a one sided match.

Nigeria Army wrestler, Hannah Reuben defeated Kenya’s Lilian Nthiga by technical superiority (10-0) in the 65kg under 18 seconds of the first round.

Reuben told www.aclsports.com the feat has further boosted her morale after missing out of the 2017 African championships. She commended the Nigerian Army for creating enabling environment for her to excel in wrestling.

“I feel great, excited and short of words. This gold medal means a lot to me. Immediately I got on the mat, the thought of not making any mistake came to my mind. I thank God for crowning my efforts”, she said.

The Private Army officer promised to continue training, hoping to represent Nigeria at subsequent international tournaments.
