NFF has announced the appointments of Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as head coaches of the U20 and U17 Boys National Teams, respectively, www.aclsports.com reports.
According to a statement from the Federation’s Media and Communications Department, the Executive Committee ratified the Technical and Development Committee’s recommendation regarding the appointments.
Maikaba, who has managed several of Nigeria’s prestigious clubs, has also previously coached the U17 Boys’ National Team, known as Golden Eaglets. He was the assistant coach of the U20 Boys, Flying Eagles, during the period Paul Aigbogun served as head coach. He will now replace Aliyu Zubair, who left the role last year.
The soft-spoken tactician has served time with top-of-the-range teams Enyimba FC, Wikki Tourists, Kano Pillars, and Plateau United, and famously led Akwa United FC to win the oldest and most prestigious football competition in the land (now known as President Federation Cup) in 2017.
On the other hand, Eboboritse Uwejamomere, who has served as a match analyst of the Super Eagles in recent years, has been named the new head coach of the five-time world champions, Golden Eaglets. He is presently the head coach of the Creative Championship League side Sporting Lagos FA. He takes over from Manu Garba, who failed to qualify Nigeria for this year’s U17 AFCON in Morocco.
Beyond his role with the Super Eagles, he previously served as a match analyst with the Super Falcons and also worked in youth development at the academies of Millwall FC, Gillingham FC, and Nottingham Forest FC in England. In addition, he had a stint as head coach of Abeokuta-based Stormers SC.
The duo have been handed the responsibility of guiding Nigeria to qualification for their respective AFCON tournaments before targeting a place at the FIFA World Cup.
