The Technical Representative, Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria, Anthony Asuquo is said to be the first Nigerian coach to attain a Federation International Gymnastics (FIG) level two Certificate.

Asuquo who obtained the certificate in Senegal said the development will help place Nigeria above other African countries. The FIG certificate is granted to an individual who can successfully demonstrate capacity to deliver the FIG program using local experts for course delivery. FIG master level academy qualifies one to coach anywhere in the world.

Speaking during an interview with aclsports.com, Asuquo called on his state (Akwa Ibom) governor to give more attention to gymnastics as it is capable of winning a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. “The country must give attention to the sport (gymnastics) because we have the capability of winning a medal at the Olympics in Tokyo. We have athletes scattered not only in Nigeria but the world”.
“I’ve started my personal plans but Nigeria must have long term plans because a bad plan is better than no plan”, he said.
Anthony Asuquo promises to use his office to groom athletes that can win laurels for the country at the African Youth Games and subsequent international championships.
