First Bank claim third at FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women

First Bank Basketball Club have claimed back to back third place finish at the just concluded 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women in Angola.

The Elephant Girls beat defending champions Inter Clube 70-61 points on Sunday to replicate same success at their 2016 outing in Maputo.

Cecilia Okoye powered her team with a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds. She added 4 assists and 3 blocks to go with it while First Bank sensation, Dominique Wilson added 17 points and 4 rebounds.

InterClube who got a wild card to play in tournament following their failure to qualify from zone 6 had a low scoring second quarter (10-22) and couldn’t find their way back into it in the second half.

Eduardo Gabriel made 10 points and 9 rebounds while Italee Lucas and Nguendula Filipe added 14 and 10 points respectively but not enough to seal the victory for their side.

Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto claim their third FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup title after beating Ferroviario de Maputo 65-51 in Sunday’s Final in Angola.

Primeiro de Agosto center Alicia DeVaughn was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. DeVaughn was also named in the tournament top 5,  joined by Dominique Wilson(First Bank), Italee Lucas(InterClube), Leia Dongue (Primeiro de Agosto) and Veronica Gisela Vega (Ferroviario de Maputo).
