Governor Akinwunmi Ambode today, hosted 2018/2019 CAF Champions League representatives Mountain of Fire and Miracles ministries football club (MFM FC) at the Lagos House, Alausa-Ikeja.
In attendance were members of the Lagos state cabinet, sports administrators like the SA to the Governor on Sports and Chairman of Lagos state Sports Commission, Mr Deji Tinubu; the Lagos state FA Chairman and NFF Vice-President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi; Chairman of the Nigerian Women Premier League (NPWL), Mrs Aisha Falode; and even Ex-international Dosu Joseph.
The meeting started off with Mr Deji Tinubu’s opening address where he lauded the Ambode led administration for the massive boost football and sports in general has received in the last two years.
Governor Ambode then started by thanking MFM General Overseer, Dr D.K Olukoya for his efforts in using the church platform to ensure that the youths are taken off the streets and their energy directed towards a profitable venture. He went further to congratulate and thank the team for their performance and putting Lagos on the continental map for positive reasons.
Ambode promised a cash reward of N25m for the players and officials and another N25m for CAF Champions League football preparations. He then reiterated his administration’s campaign promise of “project THESE – Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sports for Excellence,” as what the Ambode led government represents.
The Governor also addressed the request by MFM Sports Director, Mr Godwin Enakhena to see to it that the Agege stadium which will be inspected by CAF in December is in perfection condition.
“We have directed our sports team and sports commission to ensure that everything is in place to ensure that the Agege stadium is certified by CAF” he said. He also revealed some of his future plans for sports in the state which includes a games village along Epe and a 20 team Lagos Premier League.
Finally, he admonished the boys from MFM FC that they are ambassadors of the state and will be supported by his government all the way to do their best on the continent.
