Volleyball: Nigeria registers players for male Nations Cup

Ahead of the Africa Nations Cup, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation has registered fourteen players. The Africa men’s Africa Nations Championship is scheduled for Egypt between October 22nd to 30th, 2017.

In a statement signed by the chairman, media and publicity, Kehinde Lamidi revealed that the number of male players were pruned from thirty-four to fourteen after twenty-five days of camping.

The registered players obtained b aclsports.com are; Emmanuel Samuel, Yohana Tswevini, Jatto Emmanuel, Levi iortyom, Arinze Kelvin and Ejeh Matthew.

Others includes; Akinbo Sunday, Harrison Anyansodike, Samuel Ogwuche, Dauda Saje, Seiyfa Dikiya, David Lawal, Joharan Salami and Afun ldowu. The male players will be guided by head coach, Japhet Nuhu and assisted by Sam Ajayi.

Nigeria on Wednesday became the seventeenth nation to confirm participation in the event, which acts also as a qualifier for the 2018 FIVB World Championship. The team is expected to travel to Cairo on Friday 20th of October,2017.

The top 3 teams from the African Nations championship will represent Africa at the 2018 World Championship in Japan. Nigeria had qualified before to the final phase after they came second in Zone 3 qualifiers held in Niamey, Niger last July finishing second to Ghana.

The teams qualified through the zonal qualifiers are Morocco, Cape Verde, Ghana, Nigeria, Niger, Congo RD, Congo Brazzaville, Kenya, Rwanda and Botswana. Zambia, Chad, Libya owned wild cards, while Tunisia, Cameroon and Algeria confirmed their tickets as top ranked teams in the FIVB ranking. Egypt as hosts complete the finals list.
