More than six months after welcoming her daughter, Olympia with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams returned to tennis to win her first match at the BNP Paribas Open.

Williams made her post-child birth comeback a winning one with a 7-5 6-3 victory over Zarina Diyas in the first round at the BNP Paribas Open in California on Thursday.

The 23 grand slam champion looked understandably rusty in front of a large centre court crowd with 27 unforced errors in the first set but gradually got into her groove.

As part of the international women’s day celebration, Ohanian bought four billboards along interstate in tribute to his wife. The fourth billboard shows a photo of Williams and their daughter with the phrase “G.M.O.A.T” – greatest mother of all time and is signed by Alexis Sr. and Jr.

Williams will next play Dutch 29th seed Kiki Bertens in the second round, while her sister Venus takes on Romanian Sorana Cirstea. Williams sisters could meet in the third round.
