Former Greco-Roman National Champion, Abraham Onyemelusi (80kg) said his shocking defeat at the 2017 Governor Seriake Dickson Wrestling classics Championships still lingers in his memories.

In an exclusive interview with ACLSports.com, the police officer said he will leave no stone unturned at the slightest opportunity.

“Five months ago, I was defeated in Bayelsa by a freestyle wrestler (Melvin Bibo) and this really hurt me. My aim at the wrestling classic was to win my weight category and compliment on my All Africa Games (AAG) bronze medal by winning the Africa Championship but this was cut short by Bibo.

“I challenge the AAG Gold medalist (Bibo) to weigh in for the Greco-Roman category at any National trials, I’ll will definitely avenge my defeat when we meet”, the Ebonyi born wrestler said.

He disclosed that his weight category was keenly contested by top wrestlers including Tochukwu Okeke of Nigeria Army.

“When the draws were released, I knew their was trouble because Melvin Bibo, Tochukwu Okeke (now Africa Bronze medallist), Lucky Opiah (Former National Champion) and Matthias Okuma all wanted my title. But I’m happy a Greco-Roman wrestler, Okeke eventually the title”, he said.

It will be recalled that, Melvin Bibo of Bayelsa State defeated national champion , Abraham Onyemelusi of the Nigeria Police 8 – 2 in the 80 kg class of the Greco – roman of the 2017 National Wrestling Championships in Yenagoa , Bayelsa State .

The policeman, who is an AAG bronze medallist, fought hard in the final minutes of the second round but the Bayelsa wrestler held on for his first win of the competition.
