Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has unveiled his provisional 27-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 with Nantes star Mostafa Mohamed the key omission, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Pharaohs will make only their fourth World Cup appearance next month in North America and will be hoping to make an impact in what will likely be Mohamed Salah’s final World Cup appearance.
Egyptian legend Hossam Hassan has included both Salah and Manchester City star Omar Marmoush in his selection late on Wednesday night but has left out Mostafa who was in the team to the last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to Morocco.
Hassan has also included Barcelona Under 19’s uncapped starlet Hamza Abdelkarim in the selection which will be pruned down to twenty-six in a week’s time.
Liverpool talisman Salah will captain the squad and combine with Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush to lead the attack at the World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Egypt will face Russia in a pre-World Cup friendly game in Cairo on May 28, same day Hossam Hassan will have to remove one player from his provisional roster. The former African Champions will also face Brazil in a friendly in the US on June 6.
Egypt will face Belgium in their group opener in Seattle on June 15 before facing New Zealand in Vancouver, Canada on June 21. They will wrap up their Group G schedule with a clash with Iran on June 26.
