Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson has once again rescued the Nigeria Wrestling team by sponsoring them to the World Championship in Paris.

Last Wednesday, The Federation unveiled six wrestlers; Amas Daniel 65kg and John Emmanuel 70kg in the male category, while Blessing Oborududu 63kg, Adekuroye Odunayo 53kg, Mercy Genesis 48kg, and Aminat Adeniyi 58kg will represent Nigeria in the female category for the event which is expected to kick off on August 21st and run through till 26th August, 2017.

The athletes will be accompanied by the head coach of NWF, Victor Kodei and the female coach, Purity Akuh.

ACLSports.com gathered that the Federation have secured their respective visas on Friday and will depart the country today (Sunday).

“The Bayelsa state government came in with some funding. And the wrestlers are grateful to Governor Seriake Dickson and the deputy governor of Bayelsa state for their continuous support”.

“This is the second time in six months that the governor is extending a hand of fellowship to the team. This gesture has motivated to wrestlers and we are sure something positive will happen”, the source said.

It will be recalled that President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali decried lack of preparations and support from the Federal Ministry of Sports.

Igali in our earlier report expressed optimism that both Bayelsa and Rivers states will rescue the federation from missing the championship.

“We have hopes in different places and I’m sure of the Bayelsa state government coming through at some point. The Rivers State Government have been supportive too”, Igali said.

Last March, the Bayelsa state government led by Governor Dickson and the Nigeria Army sponsored the nation’s wrestlers to the 2017 Africa Wrestling Championship in Marrakech, Morocco.
