AITEO Cup defending Champions Rivers Angels on Sunday afternoon arrived Jos, the Plateau state capital ahead of Wednesday’s Women’s AITEO Cup final.

Angels finished bottom of the table in the recently concluded Nigeria Women Football League Super Four tournament in Benin City and opted to move directly to Jos from Benin.

The Edwin Okon coached side started their journey to the North Central part of Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday morning, before sleeping over at Makurdi on Saturday night. The tiring journey continued on Sunday morning and the team arrived Jos, venue of the final on Saturday afternoon.

Angels’ final opponents, Ibom Angels who ensured qualification on Saturday against Abia Angels in Umuahia are slated to fly in to Jos on Monday morning for their first ever Women’s Cup final.

Rivers Angels were the defending champions of both the league and cup competitions before eventually relinquishing their league crown to Nasarawa Amazons on Friday.

Members of the team have complained of neglect from their financiers, the Rivers State government and they believe this is further made evident by their 31-hour trip to Jos where they will compete in the N10,000,000 naira worth AITEO Cup final.

The final comes up at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos on Wednesday afternoon.
