Rwanda volleyball team head coach, Paul Bitok praised his boys for overcoming Cameroon at the ongoing U21 Men’s Africa Nations Cup in Abuja.
Bitok said the Cameroonians always create problems for Rwanda especially in the category of age grades championships.
“I’m very happy for this victory; it is a victory for qualifying to the semifinal. It was very hard, we always have a problem playing against Cameroon especially in the age grade categories and we concentrated on the first two sets because we knew all the team needed was a point to qualify”, he said.
He attributed the loss of the third and fourth sets to the injuries of two key players in the Rwandan team.
“Our main objective at the beginning was to win the first two set to get one point at least to qualify for the next round. In the middle of the match, we had a problem of two injuries; our captain got injured in the back side and also our libero got injured.
“It was very difficult for us again and had to rearrange the team and bring in the new players. I’ll like to congratulate the players for this good work that they did against Cameroon; I know it’s a combination of hard work and teamwork, the fighting spirit was very high and this is what help us after we lost the first match against Tunisia”, Bitok explained.
Rwanda will face defending champion, Egypt in the second semifinals on Sunday.
