Nigeria’s representatives in the 2019/20 Total CAF Confederation Cup (TotalCAFCC); Enyimba FC and Rangers International on Sunday secured victories which confirmed their progress to the group stage of the competition.

Both teams had secured decent first leg results last Sunday to put them on a good pedestal towards qualification and they finished the job in grand style on Sunday.

Rangers, Enyimba earn decent first leg results

Enyimba, coached by Usman Abd’Allah defeated South Africa’s Nedbank Cup champions TS Galaxy 2-1 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit to secure a 4-1 aggregate win.

After a goalless first half, Enyimba went in front in the 76th minute through their Ghanaian left back Daniel Darkwah who chipped home a pass from substitute Cyril Olisema.

Striker Martins Usule who scored his side’s second goal in Aba a week ago then scored again, beating two defenders before rounding the goalkeeper to score in the 83rd minute.

Terrence Mashego scored his side’s consolatory goal in the 89th minute but it was too little too late for the South African second division side.

In Enugu, Rangers International successfully ended Nigeria’s spate of poor results against Togolese teams when they defeated ASC Kara 1-0 to advance to the group stage on away goals rule.

The Flying Antelopes went into the game after losing the first leg 1-2 in Lome a week ago but they cancelled out the deficit within 18 minutes through Chinonso Eziekwe who finished Chiamaka Madu’s through ball.

Rangers wasted a number of good scoring chances especially through striker Ifeanyi George and was almost made to pay after the Togolese champions embarked on a late rally but Benedict Ugwu’s men held on in the end.

The result means Rangers will be in the group stage of Africa’s second tier club competition for the second year in a row. The draws for the TotalCAFCC group stage will be conducted at a later date in Cairo, Egypt.
