Day 5 of the 2025 ITTF African Youth Championships, delivered a perfect blend of intensity and inspiration, as singles and mixed doubles matches lit up the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas indoor Sports hall in Lagos, https://www.aclsports.com/ reports.
In the singles divisions, the tempo was relentless. Top seeds from Egypt, Tunisia, and Nigeria advanced through their rounds with steady confidence, though not without resistance. Players from Ghana, Benin, and Cameroon tested their opponents with gritty performances, proving that the depth of talent across the continent continues to grow.

In U-15 Girls’ Singles action, Nigeria’s Ayoola Kabirat and Egypt’s Zaki Nour eased through their matches in straight sets. South Africa’s Moati Confidence was made to work, edging Ghana’s Kyere Emmanuella in a tense five-set duel.
On the boys’ side, Tunisia’s Essid Wassim impressed in a 3–0 sweep of Nigeria’s Agunbiade Sultan. Ghana’s Ofori Richard had to dig deeper, eventually overcoming a strong South Africa challenge in four sets.
The mixed doubles delivered similar fireworks. Nigeria’s Tobi Adebakin and Aishat Rabiu were flawless in their straight-set win over South Africa, while Algeria’s Bilel Zouitene and Jade Morice proved equally dominant on Table 2 against Ethiopia.
But it wasn’t all about scorelines.
The match that captured the spirit of Day 5 came from the tie between Madagascar’s 10- and 12-year-old siblings, Ranarison Fiderana and Ranarison David, and Egypt’s older pair, Yahia Elmoursi and Farida Omar, both aged 15.
The Egyptians won in straight sets (11–8, 15–13, 11–2), but it was the second game that brought the Lagos crowd to its feet. The fearless Malagasy duo played with incredible heart, forcing deuce and pushing their more experienced opponents to the brink. Their joy, grit, and refusal to back down earned them a standing ovation and the loudest cheers of the day.
With the tournament now deep into the knockout stages, Day 5 served as a powerful reminder that youth sport shines not only in dominance and upsets, but in displays of pure spirit that defy the scoreboard.
As the business end of the competition approaches, expect more fire, and a few more surprises, under the Lagos lights.
