The Nigeria Para Powerlifting Federation (NPPF) has announced a 53-man list for a three-week intensive camping exercise ahead of the 2019 International Para Powerlifting Championships.

The International Para powerlifting is scheduled for 24th to 31st January, 2018.

The three weeks exercise under the supervision of the head coach, Prince Are Feyisetan, Assistant coaches, Patience Igbiti, Oluwakemi Gbadebo and seven others at the Mainbowl of the National stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Feyisetan who doubles as the technical director of the federation, told www.aclsports.com that the athletes were selected based on their performances at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja.

He said some new junior and senior athletes discovered during the National Sports Festival were invited to the national camp in order to have replacements for aging athletes.

“Currently, we have 53 Para Powerlifters in Camp preparing for the International Championships in Lagos. The squad consists of 40 senior athletes (20 male and 20 female), while the junior athletes are 13 (5 male and 8 female)”.

He expressed optimism of Nigeria carting away with the highest number of medals.

He said, “Because of our standard in the World, Nigeria will be able to win the highest number of medals and we believe the championships will help us have standard powerlifting equipments and facilities.

He thanked PEAK and the Ministry of Sports for making the camping exercise possible and also for their unflinching support for the Queen Oboh-led NPPF as he called on other corporate bodies to partner with the federation in sponsoring the National teams for more international engagements.
