Delta State Government has yesterday rubbished claims that medals are been fabricated to favour some contingents in the ongoing National Sports Festival holding in the state.

Addressing pressmen at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Wednesday, Aniagwu maintained that results from games were duly approved by relevant authorities before they reflect on the medal table.
He mentioned that Team Delta is keeping track event with it’s desire to win the competition having amassed 242 medals in the ongoing sports festival.
” Whatever results you see on the table has been approved by the authorities. By Saturday, you would have a clearer picture of the medal table” he mentioned.
He also refuted rumors that inadequate medical response led to the death of the Imo State Boxer, Chukwuemeka Igboanugo in the ongoing National Sports Festival holding in the state.

He mooted that the state made adequate preparation for any medical issues contrary to stories circling the internet over the death of the 25 year old Imo State Boxer, Chukwuemeka Igboanugo.

He commiserated with the Imo State Government, Boxing Federation and the family of the boxer.
According to Aniagwu, ” There were ring medics at the event centre. A day before the fight, the deceased was examined but his BP was not normal and he was asked to return for another medical check before his fight but he did not.
“He started bleeding from the nose during the fight and he refused to stop because he was desirous of victory not knowing some other development had occurred internally
“He was immediately rushed to the closest medical centre, Asaba Specialist Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
“As far as this event is considered, we have provided enough medical personnel to handle cases that arise in the course of the games”.
He described the deceased as a hero as he said that the state would only conduct an autopsy on the body of the deceased after receiving confirmation from his family and the Imo State Government.
