The NPFL management has confirmed that Owerri-based Kun Khalifat is up for sale, www.aclsports.com reports.

In a post on the website, NPFL announced that it has received a letter from the club owner seeking buyers to take over the club’s place in the top division.

Kun Khalifat FC, who struggled through their debut league campaign in 2025/26, managed to survive on the final day, having battled financial difficulties throughout the season. ‎

‎”On behalf of the shareholders of Kun Khalifat of Owerri, I hereby confirm that we are in the process of handing over the majority shares of the company to a prospective buyer. You will be duly informed when the process is concluded.

”Meanwhile, we appeal to you to commence the process of transfer of ownership to the prospective buyer,” Kun Khalifat’s CEO, Amaefula Michael, wrote to the NPFL.

The league body also confirmed that if Kun Khalifat FC’s sale to a new owner is not completed before the start of the season on August 28th, it may not allow a change of club name.

Meanwhile, in a separate video hours later, the club has debunked the news through Mrs. Rita Amaefula, the president of the club, stressing that they have only opened the club to more investors and not an outright sale.
