In a matchup between two newly promoted sides, Abdu Maikaba’s men prevailed to claim their first three points of the season. Ibrahim “Yuga” Mustapha scored the game’s only goal in the 27th minute.

The result leaves both sides with three points from two NPFL games played ahead of match day three action next weekend when Pillars will travel down south to face Abia Warriors.

In Benin, reigning Federation Cup champions Bendel Insurance defeated Shooting Stars 2-0 to open their season on a winning note.

Excruciating, Rough, Arduous & Energy Sapping with a lot of sacrifices!

The Benin Arsenals did not take part on match day one due to their continental engagement, while Shooting Stars edged a close contest with Plateau United in Ibadan last Saturday.

Shooting Stars defender Ghali Falke scored a comical own goal in the first half when he headed an harmless cross from Insurance’s Stanley Okorom into his own net.  With ten minutes left to play, Evans Ogbonda won the ball in the midfield before unleashing a fierce strike into the top corner.

It was Insurance’s first NPFL win since beating Elkanemi Warriors 2-1 in April and coach Monday Odigie would certainly be proud of his boys.

Insurance will travel to Enyimba for their rescheduled match day one game, while 3SC will return to Ibadan to prepare for the visit of Gombe United next Sunday.
