Five times Paralympian, Lucy Ejike, is among the three candidates for World Para Powerlifting Athlete Representative.
The election is scheduled to take place during the Mexico City 2017 World Championships, from September 28 to October 1, 2017.
Ejike will compete against Great Britain’s Ali Jawad and Egypt’s Sherif Osman.
According to the para powerlifting website, this is the the first time ever that candidates were nominated by their respective National Paralympic Committees, who “searched for strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play, and a commitment to the advocacy of athlete related issues.”
All accredited powerlifters can vote for one of the nominees. Election booths will be placed next to the Athletes Service Area near the drop-off point/entrance to the competition venue (Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera), according to the body.
The athlete representative will serve a four-year term (2018-2021) on the Sport Technical Committee, acting as liaison between the athletes and the World Para Powerlifting Management Team.
The mission of the athlete representative is to represent the views of the entire para powerlifting athlete population, including all impairment types, looking for equal gender representation, and making their voices heard within World Para Powerlifting.
