Enyimba and Shooting Stars claimed big wins over Rivers United and Abia Warriors respectively on another pulsating weekend in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.

It was the continuation of match day 34 in the 2023/24 NPFL campaign. Enyimba used the occasion to beat Rivers United 4-1 in Aba, while Shooting Stars thumped Abia Warriors 4-0 in Ibadan. Chijioke Mbaoma (brace) and Elijah Akanni (brace) after Andy Okpe’s opener kept Enyimba in the title conversation.

In the day’s late game, the Oluyole Warriors scored four goals in the final 20 minutes to send the Abia side back to Umuahia empty-handed. Midfielder Alex Aghahowa opened the scoring with a smart finish from Adams Mustapha’s knockdown before Malomo Taofeek reacted quickest to fire the second goal in. Late on, Christian Pyagbara and Adams added further goals to complete the rout.

League leaders, Rangers, held Sporting Lagos to a goalless draw in Lagos. The Flying Antelopes maintained their lead at the top ahead of next weekend’s showdown with second-placed Enyimba in Enugu.

Following a 2-0 home loss at the hands of Sunshine Stars, Gombe United became the first team to be relegated from the top flight this season. Promise Awosanmi and Lucky Nwafor scored for the Owena Waves who eased their relegation worries with the important win. Similarly, Bayelsa United defeated Plateau United 3-2 in Yenagoa, while it finished 1-1 between Niger Tornadoes and Kwara United in Kaduna.

On Saturday, it was home wins galore for Doma United, Bendel Insurance, and Remo Stars who defeated Lobi Stars, Katsina United, and Kano Pillars respectively.

Meanwhile, match day 34 action will be concluded on Monday with Akwa United hosting Heartland in Uyo.
