Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan have announced the return of Gbenga Ogunbote as the club’s head coach ahead of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League season, https://aclsports.com/ reports.

Ogunbote, who led Remo Stars to the CAF Confederation Cup last season, was unveiled at the Lekan Salami Stadium, home of the Oluyole Warriors, on Monday Afternoon.

This will be the “Oracle’s” third stint with the Ibadan based club, having worked with the club in 2015 and 2016.

Ogunbote, in his words, said he is hoping to make a mark in his return to the former league Champions.

“I want to sincerely inform you that Shooting Stars is a traditional club with rich history. Bringing back the club’s lost glory is not the issue or duty of Ogunbote as an individual but it is going to be a responsibility of everybody and all stakeholders including the government – owners of the club.

“Because of the work I did previously here is the reason why I was asked to come back and work again and I’m hopeful that we will achieve something this third time.

Ogunbote, who left his role at Remo Stars after his one-year deal expired, is expected to take over the reins of the club after the resignation of Edith Agoye – who is now the head coach of Sunshine Stars – and a host of technical crew members were sacked.

Ogunbote was presented to a sizable number of fans present at the stadium by the Oyo state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Seun Fakorede, the club chairman, Hon Babatunde Olaniyan and a host others.

After beating the drop on the final day of last season, Shooting Stars will be expecting the former Enyimba man to improve the side’s performances in their second consecutive season in the top-flight.

Ogunbote led Shooting Stars to an unprecedented ninth place finish in his first stint, and was able to steer the team to survival in the 2016 campaign having met them in the relegation battle.

Shooting Stars will begin their preseason preparations on Tuesday, as Ogunbote will be hoping to strengthen the side before the NPFL 2022/23 season gets underway.
