The People’s Elephant were not in action on match day one due to the continental assignment of Bendel Insurance, and they will be up against the Savannah Scorpions at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe in their season opener.

Speaking with Enyimba website, Enyimbafc.net ahead of the game, Finidi explained how his team will be able to handle the title defence.

“We are coming into the season as defending champions but we won’t allow that to put us under any pressure,” Finidi began.

‘We have already had discussions with the players and we have made them understand that one thing we must do is stick to our ideologies.

“This is a long season that will have the good moments and the difficult ones, but what ever the case, wet must stick to our ideologies. That is what will give us an identity and give us a chance.

“I understand that the fans have high expectations, but at the same time I am confident that the players we have can deliver. We are all motivated and ready to go at it again.”

Specifically on Sunday’s game between Enyimba and Gombe United, Finidi said:

“Gombe United have usually been a difficult opposition, especially when playing against them in Gombe. They have a good crowd of supporters behind them, and that makes them want to give everything. But we will also fancy our chances.

“We just want to maintain a positive approach because that is the same thing that helped us to win many away games last season. I am confident that with the right approach, we will be able to get a good result,” the NPFL champion concluded.

Enyimba, who have already been knocked out of the CAF Champions League, will be gunning for a 10th NPFL crown this season after winning last season’s title at the Super 6 in Lagos.
