NPFL side Enyimba have reached an agreement with interim head coach Usman Abdallah to continue with the job on a permanent basis starting from the new season.
Abdallah was the team’s first assistant coach at the start of last season under Paul Aigbogun who resigned after landing Nigeria’s Under-20 job. Abdallah then led the former African Champions on a fairy-tale run in the CAF Confederation Cup where they got to the semi-final stage.
The Kano-born coach has now been rewarded with a two-year deal according to sources close to the club. His immediate task will be to return the People’s Elephant to continental football through next season’s abridged league which has been proposed to start on December 1.
In the meantime, Enyimba have more serious worries on their hands as they are on the verge of losing some key players who have refused to renew their contracts which expired at the end of the recently ended season.
Enigmatic goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai, captain Mfon Udoh, midfielder Dare Ojo, winger Stanley Dimgba and striker Abdulrahman Bashir are some of the players who are out of contract and close to switching to other NPFL clubs.
Goalkeeper Afelokhai, www.aclsports.com gather is close to joining Plateau United while attackers Bashir and Udoh are on the radar of Akwa United. The club have already intensified their scouting for the replacements of these players.
