Enyimba FC central defender Oluwatosin Adegbite says he is grateful for his side’s away win over Sunshine Stars in Ijebu Ode on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Adegbite featured for 90 minutes in the heart of the defence for the People’s Elephant and was impressive in the 0-1 win against a tough Sunshine side at the Dipo Dina Stadium.
The young defender was grateful for his team’s victory, their third in the last four games and his own performance in the Match Day 11 encounter.
“First of all, I’m grateful to God and I am so elated to start my second game and being able to keep clean sheet is another thing that gives me joy,” began the former Delta Force defender.
“Anytime I want to play, I do have it in mind that I won’t concede no matter what. I’m grateful for the away win too. I return all glory and honour to Almighty God.”
Adegbite is in his first season in Nigeria’s top flight and Sunday’s game was only his second start this season. His previous appearance was also in an away game against Gombe United on January 16 where he featured for 70 minutes in the 0-0 draw.
He speaks on his experience in the top flight and at a big club like Enyimba.
“Life at a big club like Enyimba is good as a player because we always want to be the best we are. There are no excuses no matter what, be it in training, home games or away, we always want to win,” said Adegbite.
Enyimba boast of some of the best defenders in the league at the moment. Adegbite has had to compete with experienced internationals such as Adekunle Adeleke, Nabil Yarou, Somiari Alalibo and Pascal Eze for a place in the team.
The youngster says the competition has been a healthy one.
He continued: “For me, the competition is very healthy. Our training is very competitive with no place for complacency.
“For example, if you play well in a match today, if you don’t sit well you might meet yourself out of the squad or on the bench next time. So, anyday anytime, you have to put in your best.”
Adegbite and his Enyimba teammates are on their way back home in Aba where they will face Niger Tornadoes this weekend on Match Day 12.
Enyimba who are coached by former Super Eagles star Finidi George are currently placed 4th on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table with 19 points from eleven matches, four points adrift of table toppers Remo Stars.
