Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry football club, MFM, continued their impressive run after an efficient 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in an NPFL week 11 match at the Soccer Temple Agege on Sunday.

Center back, Abisoye Olawale and Michael Ohanu scored in either half as MFM overcame a spirited effort from the promoted outfit to record their sixth consecutive at home.

After their defeat to champions, Lobi Stars, in a rescheduled game in midweek, the Olukoya Boys were expected to bounce back against Insurance at the Soccer Temple, where they remain impregnable this season.

However, while Felix Ilechukwu’s side prevailed at the end, they did start slowly with the away side in control of proceedings in the first half. But despite both teams unable to create anything of note, with their respective goalkeepers on holiday, it was the home side who broke the deadlock just before the break.

Man of the match, Olawale, towered above everyone else to head home a perfectly executed corner kick from Zikiye Jonathan to put his side 1-0 up at the break.

After the break, the visitors piled on the pressure but were could not break down their hosts’ defense led by captain, Opara Austine.

On the hour mark, MFM doubled their advantage through another well planned set piece, this time, Ohanu expertly directing another superb Jonathan delivery from a free kick, well beyond a helpless Amas Obasogie in goal for Insurance.

It was not a vintage performance from Ilechukwu’s men but it was effective enough to see them seal all three points and extend their unbeaten run at the Agege stadium to six matches.

With the result, MFM remain top of Group A on 21points, five ahead of their closest challengers, Enyimba, who were held to a goalless draw at Sunshine Stars in Akure.

For Insurance fins themselves deep into the relegation waters, second from bottom on nine points.

Up next for MFM on the league, they are away to Katsina United, after the international break while Bendel Insurance host Wikki Tourists in Benin.
