Shooting Stars head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has reiterated his desire to see his side keep winning their games in the current Nigeria Premier Football League season, www.aclsports.com reports.

It was a bit tough for the Ibadan side against Plateau United in their match day seven fixture played at Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, until home boy Ayodele Ismail came off the bench to head home the winner in the 95th minute to help the side maintain their winning streak.

The Oluyole Warriors, after a slow start to the season where they failed to win any of their first four league games of the season, have now recorded three consecutive wins that have propelled them from the bottom four to the top six.

“We have our targets from the beginning of the season,” an elated Nurudeen Aweroro began in his post-match conference. “We want to concentrate on our winning mentality, so there is no expectation other than to keep winning our matches.

Aweroro saw his side dominate the fixture for large periods, but they failed to convert most of the chances, and he feels it is something they need to work on going forward.

“We keep learning in every game. When we started the season, we were conceding goals, so we had to work on our defence. I think we now need to work more on the intelligence in front of the goal, which we will definitely do. We still have the same set of players. What we did was to concentrate more on the mistakes, but it is still a work in progress.”

The former Ikorodu City handler went ahead to speak on the impact Ayodele Ismail made from the bench, and what led to his introduction into the encounter.

“There was no reason. I made the changes based on the strength of the players on the pitch. The players couldn’t move forward again, so Ismail was introduced to strengthen the side again. We needed strength to finish up the game, and Ismail did just that.”

“We have to aim high. We don’t have to limit ourselves to the league alone. We are simply working towards the target. It’s not the continental ticket yet, but we just need to keep winning until the end of the season,” Aweroro responded to a question on gunning for a continental ticket as the team’s target for the season.

Shooting Stars have now taken 11 points from their opening seven games of the season, and will now travel to face Kano Pillars in their next league outing on Sunday.
