After putting up a performance worthy of the man of the match award, captain of MFM FC, Austine Opara made some interesting comments following his teams’ 2-1 win over MC Alger.

On his performance against a tall and strong Algerian side he said: “I believe in football it’s not about height but what you can do with your legs and that’s what gives me confidence to play against any player or opponent.”

Apart from the rare slip in defence which gifted MC Alger a chance which they converted, the “no nonsense” skipper who was always at the end of every threatening MC Alger attack to thwart it said “I expected that we would score three goals,” adding that they would have to go and finish the job in Algeria.

Talking about finishing the job in Algeria where they would be facing a bigger and more hostile crowd against a very dangerous Algerian side who score loads of goals at home he said: “That’s a normal thing in football.”

“I saw their last game against AS Otoho. They won 9-0 but I believe this is a different ball game. We are not going there to play, we are going for serious business over there.”

Reflecting on the game, Austine expressed his excitement that the team was able to at least come away with a win and represent the country well. “I am very happy because we are not playing for MFM alone, we are playing for Lagos State and Nigeria so we are carrying a lot of responsibility and I’m very happy we won.
