Defender Bitrus Philemon scored a stoppage-time equalizer to rescue Doma United from the jaws of defeat in the 2-2 draw against Ikorodu City on Saturday, reports www.aclsports.com.
Following sanctions from the NPFL, this game was played behind closed doors at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. However, the game delivered in terms of goals as compared to the goalless affair between Niger Tornadoes and Barau FC in the match day’s first game.
Doma United, winless in their past two NPFL games before coming into this contest, went in front in the 19th minute through Philemon’s well-taken penalty. That lead lasted just five minutes as winger Tomiwa Awojobi fired home the equalizer for the visitors to open his account for the season.
It became a ding-dong affair for most parts of the second half until right-back Elijah Ujunwa scored in the 85th minute to put Ikorodu City in front for the first time in the match.
However, the Savannah Scorpions were keen to maintain their unbeaten run at home, and Philemon was the hero with a stoppage-time equalizer to rescue a point for Doma United.
With the result, Doma United, who have now taken just a win in their past seven NPFL matches, are placed 10th on the log, while Ikorodu City are up to 11th with more matches to come in the matchday.
