The NFF on Monday announced that Super Eagles’ head coach to the just concluded AFCON, Augustine Eguavoen will remain in interim capacity with Emmanuel Amuneke added to his backroom staff.

Eguavoen took charge of the team on interim basis last December and led the former African champions to a round of 16 exit in Cameroon. The former defender has now been rewarded with extra months of work.

This time, and in what is a minor reshuffling of Eguavoen’s technical crew, his former teammate Emmanuel Amuneke who worked as a member of CAF’s Technical Study Group in Cameroon will now be his first assistant.

Amuneke’s return to that capacity in which he served also on interim basis six years ago means that former U20 head coach Paul Aigbogun and Dr Terry Eguaoje will no longer be in the team’s coaching crew.

“The NFF Board has approved a recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee retaining Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Director/Technical Adviser (interim) while Emmanuel Amuneke becomes the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.

“Salisu Yusuf will be the 2nd Assistant Coach/Chief Coach of the CHAN team and Joseph Yobo will be 3rd Assistant while Aloysius Agu remains the Goalkeepers’ Trainer,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi announced.

OFFICIAL: Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) extends the interim tenure of Augustine Eguavoen till March ending with Emmanuel Amunike drafted as assistant.

While the Federation did not stipulate the duration of the temporal contract, www.aclsports.com scooped that the crew has been given a direct mandate to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and “the rest will follow”.

Nigeria will face Ghana in a two-legged qualifying blockbuster in March to determine who picks one of Africa’s five tickets to the global football showpiece in November. The first leg encounter holds at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana on Thursday, 24th March, 2022.
