The top three teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday secured crucial wins to maintain the status quo at the summit of the 2019/20 league table after Match Day 22.

League leaders Plateau United secured a routine 2-1 win over Jigawa Golden Stars in Jos with goals from Salefu Ochowechi and Tosin Omoyele while midfielder Alex Aghahowa Otakho’s first half strike was enough to earn ten-man Lobi Stars a 1-0 win at Kwara United.

In Okigwe, Rivers United defeated Heartland 0-2 to record their third away win of the season. Striker Malachy Ohawume scored both goals in the second half to keep Stanley Eguma’s men within touching distance of first placed Plateau.

All other games on Sunday ended in home wins including a last gasp 1-0 win for FC Ifeanyiubah against MFM FC in the battle of privately owned sides in Nnewi. Substitute Uche Onuoha scored the goal in stoppage time before he was sent off for a second booking.
