Nasarawa Amazons received a cash reward from chairperson Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo after defeating Edo Queens in their opening NWFL Premiership Super Six match, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Lafia-based side began their Super Six campaign on a positive note, securing a hard-fought win against one of the tournament favourites. Their impressive display not only earned them three valuable points but also drew immediate recognition from the club’s leadership.
While presenting the reward, Nagogo commended the players for their determination and commitment, highlighting their ability to overcome a highly rated opponent. She described the result as a reflection of the squad’s hard work and belief, urging them to maintain the same level of focus throughout the competition.

Despite celebrating the opening-day success, the chairperson reminded the team that the journey is far from over. She encouraged the players to view the victory as a foundation for greater achievements rather than a final destination, stressing the importance of consistency in the race for the championship.
Nagogo also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, acknowledging his continued support and encouragement for the club during this decisive stage of the season.
The match itself was settled just after the hour mark when Adaobi Okah found the breakthrough. Her well-taken effort in the 61st minute proved decisive, handing the Amazons maximum points and an ideal start to their title challenge.
The victory also carried added significance for the team, who narrowly missed out on the league crown in 2025 after finishing just one point behind Bayelsa Queens at the Super Six tournament in Ikenne.
Head coach Christopher Danjuma and his backroom staff have also been credited for the team’s strong showing. Over the years, the Amazons have repeatedly lost key players to other opportunities, yet the coaching staff have consistently rebuilt the squad and kept the club among the leading forces in Nigerian women’s football.
Buoyed by the morale-boosting gesture from their chairperson and the confidence gained from their opening victory, Nasarawa Amazons will now turn their attention to Monday’s clash with reigning champions Bayelsa Queens as they continue their pursuit of a first NWFL Premiership title since 2017.
