Former El-Kanemi Warriors head coach, Aliyu Zubair, has been appointed as head coach of Egyptian second division side Telecom Egypt SC, www.aclsports.com reports.

Zubair, a former Federation Cup winner with the Borno Army, has been given a two-year, and was unveiled by Telecom SC leadership at their headquarters in Cairo.

Zubair most recently led Nigeria’s U20 male team – the Flying Eagles – to the World Cup in Chile, where they were knocked out in the second round. The soft-spoken tactician has previously promoted Gombe United (2021) and El-Kanemi Warriors (2024) to the top-flight league in Nigeria from the second division.

At the National level, the Kwara-born gaffer won the WAFU-B tournament in 2024 and also qualified the team for the World Cup after clinching the bronze medal in the Nations Cup.

Telecom Egypt, with the sole aim of promotion to the Egyptian topflight, have turned to the Nigerian manager as the one to lead that charge for them.

Zubair returns to club management after leaving Nigeria Premier Football League side Elkanemi Warriors at the end of last season. Zubair will also be joined by his Flying Eagles Assistant Coach, Lukman Ijaiya.
