Rising Super Eagles star Abdullahi Bewene has signed a new deal at Banik Ostrava amid reported transfer interest, www.aclsports.com reports.
Since joining the Czech outfit two years ago, the 21-year-old midfielder has worked his way into the first team, becoming a regular starter. His versatility has also made him an important asset, with the youngster often deployed at right-back in addition to his natural midfield role.
His impressive club performances earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles squad from coach Eric Chelle in June, and he did impress in the game against Poland.
Following an impressive campaign, transfer speculation began to gather pace, with Slavia Prague, Gent, and Club Brugge all reportedly expressing interest in signing him. However, the Czech club have now confirmed that Bewene has signed a five-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2031.
”Bewene is one of the players with whom we have recently recorded very interesting performance progress,” Ostrava’s Sporting Head Ludek Miklosko said.
”In his case, we are also convinced that he has not yet reached his ceiling. He has the parameters for top-level football, and by extending his contract, we are ensuring continued cooperation with a player who has the potential to be very important for Baník in the coming seasons.
”I believe that with this long-term contract for a player who was in great demand on the market, we are showing our ambitions for the future,” Mikloško added.
Bewene, who is currently valued at €850,000 on Transfermarkt, has made two appearances in the current Czech Liga season and could be valued more before the end of the season if he continues to impress.
