Co-founder of Lagos-based side Inter Lagos, Lanre Vigo, could not hide his joy as he delivered his first reaction to the club’s promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Lagos side became the second side to seal top-flight promotion following a 1-1 draw with Smart City in their penultimate game of the season. Earlier, Doma United picked one of the tickets in the Northern Conference to return to the top flight after their relegation in 2024.
As for Inter Lagos, it will be their maiden campaign in the elite division. It is also the addition of another Lagos-based side to the NPFL for the 2026/27 season.
In an Instagram post shortly after the confirmation, Vigo said, ”THANK YOU JESUS! @interlagosfc is now a Premier League team. You mean little me from Babani street? I own a team in the Nigerian Premier League now. Guys, please help me thank God I can’t believe this. A big thank you to everyone who has helped me on this journey. I’m honestly short of words,” an elated Vigo concluded.
He went ahead to add, ”I don’t know how to put it into words. I keep remembering the first day that we started this football club. It is crazy. We will definitely bring good football to the NPFL. We want to make sure we take that to the NPFL, enjoy the journey, and survive. We thank our fans for their support and prayers, but it is time to enjoy.”
Inter Lagos will compete in the 2026/27 NPFL season alongside Ikorodu City, marking the return of Lagos derby games in the top flight for the first time in a decade.
