FIBA ABL: Smouha stay unbeaten with win over Al Ahly

Smouha of Egypt beat their local rivals Al Ahly 91-82 in the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball League on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.

Adamu Saaka led the way for Smouha with 26 points, three rebounds and three assists while James Justice had 18 points and 7 rebounds in 40 minutes.

Ahmed Farag scored 15 points, five rebounds and six assists. Farag hit three of his six 3-pointers and added four steals in the game.

Ashraf Rabie added 11 points while Marwan Sarhan scored 10 points and six rebounds.

Although Smouha started strongly in the first quarter 24-21, it was the host who came back in the third scoring 23 points against Smouha’ s 16.

Smouha sealed the win in the end after they out scored Al Ahly 38-25 in the last quarter.

They also recorded 52 points in the paint compared to 38 made by Al Ahly of Egypt.

Todd O’Brien had a team high 26 points and 14 rebound double-double. O’Brien made 52.63% from the field for Al Ahly.

Quddus Bello had 16 points, Seifeldin Samir Saad added 11 points and eight rebounds while Ibrahim Ragab Elgammal contributed 10 points and seven assists.

Smouha maintained their impressive performance in the FIBA Africa Basketball League to stay unbeaten in four games.

The return leg will come up on Sunday April 7 at the Al Ittihad Stadium, Alexandria.
