Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been paired in the same group as host nation Egypt for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to hold in 2023.

The draws for the tournament were conducted at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday evening.

Twelve nations, from across different zones on the continent, have been divided into three groups of four teams each and they will be competing in the 17th edition of the biennial tournament scheduled to be played between February 19 and March 11, 2023.

Ladan Bosso’s side, who have been preparing for the tournament in Abuja in the past month, are the most successful country in the competition and were drawn alongside Egypt, Mozambique and Senegal in the tournament’s “Group of death”.

Although the Flying Eagles have won the competition seven times, they last won it in 2015 but won the WAFU B tournament in May, to book their place in Egypt.

The four semifinalists in Egypt will fly the flag of Africa at the U20 World Cup tournament billed for Indonesia next year.

The draw in full:

GROUP A: Egypt, Mozambique, Senegal, and Nigeria.

GROUP B: Uganda, Central African Republic, South Sudan and Congo.

GROUP C: Gambia, Tunisia, Benin, and Zambia.
