Nigerian forward, Joy Omewa, has been crowned the Danish Women’s League Player of the Season for 2024/25 after a sensational campaign with Fortuna Hjørring, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 22-year-old forward was rewarded with a unique prize for her stellar season, a one-month Mercedes Benz ride, part of the league’s official recognition for her standout performances.

Fortuna Hjørring side

Omewa was at the heart of Fortuna Hjørring’s historic domestic double, helping the club clinch both the Danish Championship and the Danish Women’s Cup. She finished the season as the league’s top scorer, netting 22 goals and providing 4 assists in just 23 matches.

Before moving to Denmark, she began her career at Osun Babes at youth level, before moving to Confluence Queens. She has represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels and is widely seen as one of the country’s top young talents. Primarily a centre forward, she also excels as a second striker, combining intelligent movement with sharp passing in the final third.

Feared by defenders for her blistering pace, sharp movement, and clinical finishing, Omewa has earned praise across Europe. Fortuna Hjørring coach Lene Terp said, “Joy has great awareness and instincts, her timing and positioning make her stand out. She’s the kind of striker every team wants in their squad.”

This recognition has cemented Omewa’s status as a rising Nigerian star and caught the attention of top European clubs.
