Things got heated up in the men and women singles event of the 2018 ITTF Africa Championship as the last four in both categories emerged on Saturday.

With Nigeria and Egypt dominating the medals table so far, it is no surprise that players from both countries have also made it to the last four of the singles event in Mauritius.

Three Nigerians – Aruna Quadri, Olajide Omotayo and Segun Toriola alongside Saleh Ahmed of Egypt – Bode Abiodun’s conqueror; have all made it to the last four and will square up against each other for a place in the finals of the men’s singles event. Aruna Quadri and Olajide Omotayo will face each other in the first semifinals of the day before Segun Toriola does battle with Egypt’s Saleh Ahmed.

In the women’s singles category, the reverse is the case as only Edem Offiong made it to the semifinals after Oribamise Esther and Funke Oshonaike lost their respective round of 16 matches from leading positions. Edem Offiong will battle number one seed, Dina Meshref for a place in the finals against whoever comes out on top between the other two Egyptians.
