Handball: Edo Dynamos, Safety Babes survive scare on Day 2

Edo Dynamos and Safety Babes won their matches by the whiskers on the Day 2 of the 2019 Prudent Energy Handball League in Lagos.

The Most Valuable Player on Day 1, Vivian Nwandi and Faith Inegbedion were instrumental in Edo Dynamos narrowly beating Kada Queens by 27-26. Safety Babes struggled to beat Seasider Babes 22-17 in a matched filled with spectators at the indoor court of the Rowe Park Sports centre.

Seasiders goalkeeper, Olabisi Oyewusi frustrated Safety Babes in the first half of the game but the team could not convert much of their chances in front of goal. Safety Shooters match maker, Ada Oke punished the Lagos based team few minutes to the end of the game.

Imo Grasshoppers demolished noisy Abia Valiant 36-10 in a one sided encounter. Stella Ndudi led side did not take chances into their hands as they converted most of their scoring opportunities.

Defenders Babes pummelled Owena Queens 30-19 while defending champion, Plateau Peacocks eased pass Desert Queens 34-18.

In the men’s category, Kano Pillars made a huge statement in the league by beating Borno Spiders by 26-18. The Sai Maisugida boys were held hostage by the Maiduguri based team in the second half but Aminu Adamu inspired his teammates to claim the two points. Lagos Seasiders surprisingly defeated De Defenders 37-29 in front of their home fans despite been the underdog before the commencement of the game.

COAS Shooters returned to winning ways by beating Owena Queens by 28-23 while Plateau Vipers struggled to beat Prison Key Boys by 20-17.

Title contenders, Safety Shooters of Abuja eased pass Kada Stars by 25-15 while defending champions Niger United defeated Sokoto Rima 34-29.
